The Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University Names New Korbel Professor
SAN JOSE, CA, (June 7, 2023) - Sonoma State University announces the Wine Business Institute’s new Korbel Professor of Wine Business, Dr. Angelo Camillo. The professorship, was established in 2011 and has been held by other distinguished faculty at Sonoma State University, including outgoing faculty members Dr. Liz Thach and Dr. Armand Gilinsky. The F. Korbel & Brothers Professorship in Wine Business is funded by Korbel Champagne Cellars owner Gary Heck, who is one of the Wine Business Institute’s founders and long standing Chairman. The three year professorship, supports the Korbel Professor to cultivate faculty research and projects that advance the wine industry and its leaders.

The Californian Wine Industry is recognized globally for producing exceptional wines by extraordinary leaders who create jobs for millions with a $73 Billion economic impact. This dynamic success would not be possible without the financial support in Research and Development by leaders like Gary Heck, owner of Korbel Champagne Cellars,” noted Professor Camillo.
Dr. Camillo's upcoming research will explore strategic management topics within the wine business ecosystem, including the future of work and the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He aims to understand how AI influences wine appreciation and consumption behavior of the young Alpha Generation. Additionally, Dr. Camillo will investigate the sustainability of the demand for NoLo (No Alcohol-Low Alcohol) wines among young consumers. Furthermore, his research will analyze the effects of emerging wine producers in developing economies on the global competitive landscape, focusing on the viticultural development of "High Altitude – Cool Climate Wines" in Canada and Argentina, as well as "Tropical Wine" production in countries like Ethiopia, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Peru, Brazil, Myanmar, and Zimbabwe.
